Brisbane Writers Festival, podcast, and other bits and pieces
A quick run down on some happenings in my writing world.
Brisbane Writers Festival
Yes, I’m on the program! As a long-time attendee of the event, I’m very excited to be part of the festival this year (between us, it’s one of those things I used to daydream about before I was published…oh okay, since then as well).
I’ll be on a panel with Marjorie M.Liu, Nalini Singh and Teagan Chilcott, discussing why we (readers and writers) like stories with myth, magic and monsters.
The session, called Angels and Demons, is on Sunday 8 September, 11:30am–12:30pm at the State Library.
I’ll post more info on the festival itself in coming days. In the meantime, you can get more info on my session here.
4ZZZ podcast
I had a lovely interview with Amy Stevenson at 4ZZZ earlier in the month, where we chatted about angel mythology, bad boys and twins. It aired on 18 July and you can find the podcast here.
Reviews of the North American edition of Shadows
Shadows is out in the US and Canada on 10 September (not long now!) and recently went out to reviewers. Here are a couple of early reviews that made me smile:
Logan Sci Fi Month – workshop and panel session
I’ve got two events at the always fun Logan Sci Fi Month in August. The first is a workshop, and the second is a panel discussion with fellow writers Trent Jamieson, Kev Webb and Rebecca Timms.
Find our more at on the Events page.
Angus & Robertson Ipswich
I also had a great time at my recent visit to Angus & Robertson Riverlink (Ipswich). The staff were fantastic (as always) and I met some really lovely readers. You can find more pics at Between the Lines (the new facebook page for Angus & Robertson at Ipswich and Victoria Point ) here.
Indigo to publish Rephaim books 3 & 4 in the UK
I’m happy (read: grinning) to share this news: Indigo (part of Orion) in the United Kingdom has bought books 3 and 4 in the Rephaim series. 🙂
That means all four books will be released in the UK (with the Indigo editions available in a number of other countries).
Shadows (book 1) was released by Indigo in January this year, with Haze (book 2) being released in October this year. Shimmer (book 3) will be released in 2014 and book 4 will come out in 2015.
You can read the media release (and some lovely things from my editor at Indigo) here.

Huge thanks to Text Publishing Rights Manager Anne Beilby, Jane Finigan at Lutyens & Rubinstein, and Jenny Glencross at Indigo.
Events, fave reads and other stuff
First up, if you’re around Ipswich (Queensland) this Saturday (20th), I’ll be hanging out at Angus & Robertson in Riverlink Shopping Centre from 11am to 12.30pm. Feel free to swing by and say hi. I’ll be chatting and signing and probably buying more books for my ever-growing to-be-read pile.
Speaking of reading, I’ve devoured some amazing novels in the past few months. Coincidentally, my favourites are all YA by brilliant Australian writers (except for John Green, who, of course, is American). Click on the thumbnails to see my thoughts on each on Goodreads.
New/recent releases:
Books others have raved about that I finally read:
In other bits and pieces, I’ve had some lovely readers asked for extra bits and pieces on the site here, which I’ve added in. You’ll find a few more character profiles here now and a few thoughts on other photos on Rafa’s phone, here (in the comment thread).
And Shimmer is continuing to take shape. 🙂
