Me

I’m the author of the Rephaim series and The Undercurrent (a stand-alone speculative thriller).

For my day job, I’m a writer-journalist-professional communicator, where my writing involves a lot less profanity.

I grew up in regional South Australia and now live in the Scenic Rim in Queensland with my husband and a retired greyhound.

If you’re interested in how I came to land a publishing deal, you can read the short version in this post from August 2011. There’s a longer version (in a guest post) here.

hey Paula! i finally got around to reading Shadows now that school is over and i’m so glad that i waited for the holidays as i got to completely dive into the book and escape for a while into the world of angels and demons. I loved it and i can’t wait to recommend to everyone to go ahead and read it! hope to see you in the book shop sometime soon (vic point A&R) 🙂 looking forward to reading Haze already!

Hey Allison! Thanks for the message. Glad you loved it. Thanks for the support. 🙂 I’ll be in the shop again soon to say hi.

  2. Pavani says:

I tend to get excited about aussie authors making it big and … SHADOWS WAS THE FIRST BOOK THAT I READ IN ONE NIGHT!!!! I CAN’T WAIT FOR HAZE!!!!! and Thank you so much for your hard work in writing such an amazing book!!!

    1. paulaweston says:

Thanks Pavani. 🙂 I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Your message made my day.

  3. Just make sure the pinches don’t leave any visible bruises and all should be fine! LOL.

  4. paulaweston says:

Thanks David. I really appreciate that. It’s been a long journey but let me tell you – it’s all been worth it. Still pinch myself occasionally, though. 🙂

  5. Christina’s comments made me feel all warm and wobbly inside. That might disconcert some other readers but I think you’ll know what I mean. What validation!!!! Wow. I’m thrilled for you. Have been following the publicity for some time and think it’s wonderful. If people only knew the heartache and persistence of your journey, they’d be amazed. Funny thing, eh: the harder you work, the luckier you get. I think you’ve already earned a whole lot more luck and it must surely be on its way. Enjoy. Very best wishes, David.

  7. Emily says:

Hey Paula, My Friend Christina could not stop talking about this book and i she made me read it and im glad she did! It was absolutly fantastic! i read it in under two days and i was so sad when it was over! And i REALLY want Gaby to get her memory back haha she sounds like Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy who happens to be my favorite girl main character ever! and you can just tell it would get so hectic!! anyway i leave you to writing the next book! hope lifes great!
    Much Obliged,
    Emily

I seriously can’t believe i have to wait till NEXT YR to read Haze. I agree with the first comment, The only bad part was getting to the end.
You are an amazing authour and are totally going to rock this world with the more books that you write! 😀 I give Shadows 5/5 stars!

    1. paulaweston says:

      Thanks Christina. 🙂

  9. Christina says:

I started reading shadows, 3 pgs in and i was obsessed, im not kidding. 10 pgs in and i couldn’t wait for school to end to read more when i got home! Now up to pg 64! IT IS REALLY REALLY AWESOMEEEE!!!!!!!!

I find many paranormal romance books to be too similar, but this one is different, its got an edge that other paranormal romance books dont have. its really really addictive!

Finally a girl who is totally bad ass! HEEHEEHEE

and the best thing is…. ITS SET IN AUSTRALIA ! it can’t get much better than that!

And the writing is superb, ESPECIALLY for a first novel too!

oh and i haven’t even finished it yet! 😀 i better get back to reading it!

    1. paulaweston says:

Thanks Christina. 🙂 Hope you keep enjoying it!

  10. Fiona Walker says:

Just finished reading Shadows and absolutely loved it! I’m hanging out for Book 2 so hope you’re busy writing and ignoring housework and gardening in favour of creation. I think the scenery, characters and storyline were so real and easily believable. The only disappointment was to get to the end of the book too soon. Please keep writing!

    1. paulaweston says:

      Hi Fiona,
So glad you enjoyed Shadows. And yes, there’s not a lot of housework or gardening going on here…Book 2 (Haze) is well under way, with the first draft down and serious editing about to start in coming weeks. Thanks so much for your comments. 🙂
