Burn (The Rephaim Book IV)

(Final in the The Rephaim series)

Gaby remembers everything.

For a year she believed she was a backpacker chilling out in Pandanus Beach. Working at the library. Getting over the accident that killed her twin brother.

Then Rafa came to find her and Gaby discovered her true identity as Gabe: one of the Rephaim. Over a hundred years old. Half angel, half human, all demon-smiting badass—and hopelessly attracted to the infuriating Rafa.

Now she knows who faked her memories, and how—and why it’s all hurtling towards a massive showdown between the forces of heaven and hell.

More importantly, she remembers why she’s spent the last ten years wanting to seriously hurt Rafa.

‘Burn is everything I expected from the final instalment of The Rephaim, a brilliantly plotted novel where action, romance, and intrigue come together to create magic.’

Speculating on Spec Fic

‘This friends is how you finish a series. Urban fantasy doesn’t get any better.’

Pauline (Riverbend Books, Brisbane)

‘Burn does right by its readers. All plots are brought together well. They are tied up beautifully, with emotion and affection.’

Reading Time (The Children’s Book Council of Australia)

‘I’ve loved everything about this series, and the finale was exactly what I wanted. Secrets revealed, lies exposed, romance galore and second-chances. I’m going to miss this world and these characters so damn much, but I thank Paula Weston for gifting readers this epic rollercoaster of a ride.’

Alpha Reader (Danielle Binks, author of The Year The Maps Changed and The Monster of Her Age)

‘It’s fitting Paula Weston’s Rephaim series should wrap up with a finale of biblical proportions. What else would you expect from the wonderfully written story of half-angel, demons, love, passion and prophecy?’

Adelaide Advertiser

‘Officially experiencing major book hangover. I WANT MOOOORE. *cries* Hands down one of my all time favourite series.’

YA Midnight Reads

‘I can’t offer enough praise for Burn and the Rephaim series, it has been an amazing ride and I am devastated it has come to an end!’

Obsession With Books

‘It was amazing. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. I loved it.’

Inkcrush

‘Deeply satisfying conclusion to the stellar Rephaim series, one of my favourite angels and demon tales ever.’

Christine Bongers (author of The Intruder)

‘You know that the final book in a series is good when the first thing you want to do after finishing it is to read all of the books over from the beginning so it doesn’t feel over. Burn does just that. I loved every second of it.’

Marianne Curley (author of Guardians of Time trilogy, Old Magic books and Avenna series)

Y’ou know that the final book in a series is good when the first thing you want to do after finishing it is to read all of the books over from the beginning so it doesn’t feel over. Burn does just that. I loved every second of it.’

Brittany’s Book Rambles

As with its three predecessors Shadows, Haze and Shimmer it was completely un-put-downable and I finished it within a day. Jam-packed with action, suspense, romance, classic Aussie humour, and an ending that tied together all the loose ends and rounded out the series perfectly

All about UF

‘The end of one jam packed, actiony, kick-arse, punch in the face YA series. It’s all over and now I’m sad because there are no more Rephaim books to look forward to. A great ending to a great series that won’t leave you disappointed.’

Hiiii! So after a second read through of this amazing series, I was thinking that you put a lot of serious hints that this story is not over!!! I thought the same thing when I first read it, and now I’m more convinced. I mean, what about the big war between heaven and hell??? How well does Jude do as the leader of, well, everybody? (I sure he’s totally fab, but that’s beside the point) What happens with the Fallen and the Rephaim? Like can they get along? Will Rafa and his father “throw down?” These are important questions!!!!! Ugh I just don’t want to let these characters go. Thank you so much for writing these books. I haven’t been able to find anything that will grab me this intensely since reading them the first time around. (I’m seriously obsessed, which is why I’m begging for a continuation :))

Thank you! I always love it when people read the series a second time around (or more!) and enjoy it just as much. And yes, you raise important questions 🙂 I never say never…but for now you’ll need to imagine what happens next. I’m caught up in new stories and new characters, but the Rephaim are never far from my heart (or my daydreaming). Thank you for the message!

Hey Paula! I just finished the whole series and…wow! Burn was so much more amazing than I ever could have hoped for!!! I’ve told loads of my friends about the series and they are absolutely hooked! Is there a teeny tiny possibility of a 5th book coming out? I just love the characters and want to know more about Gaby, Rafa, Daisy and Jude and how they they will all interact in their own way towards their respective fathers(especially Rafa;) )…If there if no more books though, that’s okay because the journey with all the characters has been amazing throughout these 4 brilliant books:)

Thank you! I don’t have any immediate plans to write a fifth book (I have something totally new coming out next year), but I never say never, because I do love those characters. 🙂 Thanks so much for reading and sharing the Rephaim series!

Hi Paula, my name is Kirsten and I’ve really enjoyed The Rephaim series. I’m currently on book 3 which will take me about 3 days to read as i am a fast reader and since I’m in high school i have other things to get done first. I live in the United States and want to know why your 4th book Burn isn’t being released until a year later than other countries? I don’t know if i can wait until June to read.

    Thank you,

    Kirsten

      Hi Kirsten,
I’m glad you’re enjoying the series. 🙂 My books are published in different parts of the world by different publishers. Each publisher decides when it will release each book, based on its publishing schedule and marketing factors etc. I understand the frustration of having to wait longer (and wish it wasn’t so), but at least it’s only a few months between Shimmer and Burn. In Australia, the UK and other parts of the world there was at least a year wait between each book!
I hope you keep enjoying the series, and that the wait for Burn is worth it.
      Paula

Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I’m amazed you actually responded, and I must say you’ve been an inspiration to me in writing! I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but your books have kicked the writers block out of me.

I hope you have a good night (or day, wherever you are at the moment).

About Me

I’m the author of the Rephaim series and The Undercurrent.

For my day job, I’m a writer-journalist-professional communicator, where my writing involves a lot less profanity.

I grew up in regional South Australia and now live in the Scenic Rim with my husband and a retired greyhound.

If you’re interested in how I came to land a publishing deal, you can read the short version in this post from August 2011. There’s a longer version (in a guest post) here.
